Emperor Naruhito welcomed Luxembourg’s Prince Guillaume to the Imperial Palace on 10 June in their first meeting in a decade.

The emperor attended Hereditary Grand Duke Guillaume’s wedding in 2012 and the two also met again on the occasion of the prince’s 2014 visit to Japan.

This week, Emperor Naruhito congratulated the prince on the birth of his second son in 2023. After a 20-minute conversation, the two progressed to a private salon where they were joined by Empress Masako and Princess Aiko.

Prince Guillaume invited the Emperor to Luxembourg to celebrate the centenary of diplomacy between the two nations in 2027.

Next, the Hereditary Grand Duke met with Crown Prince Fumihito and his family for dinner at the Akishino residence.

The last day of the official economic visit to Japan chaired by Prince Guillaume, and led by the Minister of the Economy, SMEs, Energy and Tourism, Lex Delles, was mainly marked by the Luxembourg- Japan Business Forum and the signing of several cooperation agreements related to the space sector.
